Will Going Green mean more jobs?

I think by now most people have seen President Obamas' commitment to drastically change the way America is powered. The question a lot of people have been asking is will the projects listed in the Stimulus generate jobs. When it concerns the new energy policies the answer is yes. Changes to standards of better vehicle mileage mean someone has to work of new designs and build them. This creates jobs or at least saves them.

Also there are funds dedicated to weatherizing homes by replacing older air conditioning and heating units along with adding more insulation and finally energy saving windows. The higher the demand for these goods mean manufacturers have to keep people on the payroll to build them. Lastly someone has to install them. So I think we can safely say the answer to the question of whether Alternative Energy saving initiatives saves (or creates) jobs is a resounding YES, and that is good for America.

Can we afford electrical grid upgrades?

Wind as a source to generate energy by an alternative method may be good but the cost of upgrading the electrical transmission grid to accommodate the expansion may not be.
Seems the cost of building the transmission system could be more than expected. The Stimulus package is expected to contain $4.5 billion to upgrade the nations' electrical grid. How that will be spent remains to be seen. President Obama is said to be considering the idea of a mandatory national standard for renewable energy. Twenty Eight states already have policies in place requiring them to produce or purchase a portion of their electricity from Alternative Energy (renewable) Sources. That is good news. As with any major system changes the initial project may be costly but the end reward should be great. Eventually!

In case you haven't been following the news on the funding of Alternative Energy Products here's some news as of February 11, 2009. The plan includes $14.4 billion in Government funds for Energy Efficient and Renewable Energy programs.

In addition $4.5 billion is dedicated to a Smart Electricity Grid, $2.9 billion for weatherization of modest income home and a tax credit extension for renewable Energy Production. This is VERY good news for Alternative Energy Products indeed!

With the price of fuel skyrocketing this past year that seems like a silly question. Although prices are back down to comfortable levels I doubt we'll ever be able to stay comfortable with current troubling foreign affairs.

Practical and logical are terms that should be used together because not only IS it practical to use alternative methods of energy it's also logical to do so.

There are just so many reasons to use alternative energy as there are products and methods. I for one am glad that this subject is finally at the forefront where it belongs.

The excitement continues to build as our new president has committed financial resources to support his alternative energy ideas for America. Solar, Wind and other sources of Alternative Energy have never had as much exposure as it has now. Two factors have driven such awareness. One is concern over climate changes and the other concern of depleting non-renewable resources.

Fortunately most experts believe there is still time to take steps to avoid planetary disaster. I'm not saying damage hasn't already been done because that is obvious. What I am saying is there is still time to change the way we live on planet Earth before we reach a point of no return.

It is noticeable that more people are taking measures to conserve and switch to alternative methods of energy on their own even without incentives. Solar and Wind have taken a back seat in the past but now is moving to the forefront. If anyone heard the State of the Union speech tonight the President has made his commitment to Alternative (Renewable) Energy sources understood. There is rarely a speech where he doesn't mention it. Just like American had the Industrial Revolution and Digital Age we certainly are entering a new age of Renewable Alternative Energy.
I'll be curious to know what daily life will look like in another 20 years or so.

Alternative Energy Knowledge is Power!

Here's an interesting story. After some people were left without power last November during a blizzard a high school environmental science class teacher had and idea and organized a summit of sorts to explore other cost-effective and reliable alternative energy options.

More than a dozen speakers discussed geothermal heating and cooling, solar and wind energy, hydrogen fuel, hydroelectricity and bio-fuels to the students and explained new technology. The information seminar gave the students an awareness of how alternative energy options are better for the environment and how eventually would be more cost-efficient.

Like the saying goes: "Knowledge is Power" and in the hands of current and future generations of leaders much can be accomplished.

Last I heard the Stimulus bill allocates about $50 billion for Alternative and Renewable energy projects. The Solar and Wind Energy Industries are expected to create more than 200,000 jobs with government incentives. Now is the time for existing companies to thrive and expand. If they can't do it now with aid then it's not likely they'll stay in the business long term.

Part of the package also includes $5 billion to pay to weatherize homes. That should help in a practical way. Like the Neil Armstrong the first man to step foot on the moon said: "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind". The future of Alternative Energy is brighter than it's ever been.

America Finally Going Green?

Alternative Sources of Energy is a popular news topic these days. While some are still seeking new alternative energy options the truth is we already have existing technologies that can make an immediate impact. The problem is simpler and more affordable methods to harness renewable energy of choice such as sun, wind, water and others are needed. Renewable energy sources need not endanger the worlds' unlimited natural resources or damage the environment is the wave of the future. Once alternative energy is harnessed an efficient method of delivering the product is vital if there are going to be any advances in energy conservation.

Part of the problem is thinking too big. Inventors need to create products and systems that address energy needs on a small scale we would see much progress. New energy conserving products that accommodate the personal needs of home and vehicle owners on a small scale can add up to huge results.

Imagine each home, business and vehicle owner having his or her own small renewable power sources for each piece of equipment. People will welcome the new technology but they will demand simplicity, convenience and affordability. Deliver those three and eliminate most resistance to change.

Two young teenagers from the Middle East invented a small simple device that could affect major change. They invented a tiny device that when placed under a speed bump generated a small amount of energy each time a vehicle rolled over the bump. The device powered a battery that powered a nearby streetlight.

Imagine if this device was applied to every speed bump. It's a small solution for one fixture but it certainly makes a point. One device powering thousands or millions of applications requiring an energy source could lead to major reductions.

To finally break through the barrier of dependency on limited resources we need the cooperative effort of private individuals, public companies and government entities to apply knowledge that already exists. Incentives for new inventions of alternative energy products would speed up development and availability of new products. Some have the knowledge and desire but now all they need is the reward. Only then will America and the world truly turn the page and leave energy needs of the past behind and take the quantum leap into the future of clean and alternative energy.
